Simple Fireplace Transformation

The customer did not like anything about this family room fireplace – the brick, the narrow shelf and the nondescript design.

By removing the brick support bracket and applying  some drywalling skills, the area was transformed into a white flat surface. A 2 1/2 thick by 14 inch wide torsion box top shelf supported by stock crown molding with custom cut backer edge sits atop 8 inches unadorned wood box columns. Multiple audio visible cables are concealed behind the drywall and the box columns.
